National Nutrition Month® – March 2018

National Nutrition Month® – March 2018

So it is the month of nutrition and what better time than now to talk about making healthful food choices and developing long-lasting physical activity habits. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages us to have an enjoyable and successful National Nutrition Month® as simple as preparing meals together and finding ways to reduce food waste. So, This year we can “Go Further with Food” as follows:

  • Make part of your routine and prepare on regular basis healthful foods that include a variety of choices from all of the food groups.
  • It is cost effective, and also saves time to consider the foods you have on hand before buying more at the store. To reduce waste, and save money buy only the amount of food that can be eaten or frozen within a few days and be creative with recipes to use leftovers later in the week.
  • Be mindful of portion size.  Use MyPlate to guide you on the right amount of food for you and all the members of your family depending on age, gender, activity levels and so on.
  • Food safety is critical to prevent any food contamination and for well-being of all. Continue to use good food safety practices.
  • We can find fun activities such walk to the park, or dancing to stay physically active most days of the week.
  • Meet with a registered dietitian nutritionist- RDN- for a personalized consultation. RDNs are the nutrition experts that translate the science of nutrition into easy-to-follow meals plans that fit your lifestyle and nutrition needs.
